• The Juana Azurduy Monument stands in the Plaza del Correo, opposite the Kirchner Cultural Center.
• The culpture was donated by the Bolivian government and made by Argentine sculptor Andrés Zerneri and built in bronze, weighs 25 tons.
• Juana Azurduy has a sword in her left hand, as a symbol of liberation. On her back she has a baby. The right hand extends in a gesture of protection towards the child and the people, as does the poncho that covers them.
• Juana Azurduy was a guerrilla military leader. She fought for Bolivian independence alongside her husband, earning the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. She was noted for her strong support for and military leadership of the indigenous people of Upper Peru.
• She is now remembered as a national hero of both Bolivia and Argentina, has posthumously been granted the rank of General in the Argentinian army.
