Stopped in Châteaubriant for a short visit to see the market. The market was very large, on all the streets and around the square in front of Saint-Nicolas church.

The 12th century St Nicolas Chapel became the parish church in 1801. A new neogothic St Nicholas church was dedicated in 1881, taking the place of the ancient chapel; the tower was added in the 1890s.

I had other plans, we had passed a castle on the way into the town. While others were eating and shopping I ran back to the castle and glad I did.
