Fotografie + English: The U.S. aircraft carrier USS Boxer (CVA-21) operating off North Korea in July 1953. Her flight deck crew is respotting aircraft in preparation for recovery of her last strike. Another aircraft carrier and the battleship USS New Jersey (BB-62) are steaming ahead of Boxer.

This photo is from before, as all Essex class carriers were retrofitted to enclose all the open area of the bow after major damage to the USS Hornet CV12 when during a typhoon , the bow was peeled open like a banana, including the flight deck in 1944. Soon after that all Essex class carriers have an enclosed V bow with no gun tubs forward of the focsle.
