• English: (A) Activation of protein kinase A of higher eucaryotes via cAMP. The freed C-subunits are phosphorylating various substrate proteins at specfic serine or threonine sites, respectively. Hereby ATP is converted to ADP. (B) One of the substrates of PKA is the phosphodiesterase PDE. After phosphorylation by PKA, the activated enzyme catalyzes the hydrolysis of cAMP to AMP. Hence the activity of PKA is reduced or terminated (feedback control)
• Deutsch: (A): Aktivierung der Proteinkinase A höhere Eukaryoten. Genereller Aktivierungsmechanismus durch cAMP. Die freien C-Untereinheiten phosporylieren eine Reihe von Substraten an spezifischen Serin- bzw. Threoninresten unter Verbrauch von ATP. (B) Ein Substrat der PKA ist die Phosphodiesterase (PDE). Nach Phosphorylierung liegt diese in einem aktiven Zustand vor. Infolgedessen katalysiert die PDE die Hydroylse von cAMP zu AMP, so dass die Aktivität der PKA reduziert wird oder erlischt (feedback control).
